HOUSE IN KRIAUSIU STREET
A Tiny Urban Retreat in Kaunas: Smart Living on Kriaušių Street
In the heart of Kaunas, on the modest and characterful Kriaušių Street, a new house stands as a quiet manifesto of compact, intelligent living. Designed for a young family, this small home transforms the challenges of a narrow, street-to-street plot into opportunities for creative, functional architecture.
Small Plot, Big Ideas
The site – tight and elongated, flanked by two streets on opposite ends – offered limited space but rare urban connectivity. Rather than resist these constraints, the design embraces them. The house is narrow but tall, efficiently arranged across multiple levels to ensure every square meter counts.
Functionality First, Comfort Always
Despite its size, the home feels surprisingly spacious inside. A carefully planned layout ensures that all essential functions: living, cooking, working, sleeping are included without compromise. Natural light is invited in from glass facades.
Each space has a purpose. The living area connects directly to courtyard, providing a private outdoor refuge. Bedrooms are placed separately: children’s space is separated from parents for privacy.
A Home That Reflects Its Owners
Built for a young family with a contemporary lifestyle, the house reflects their desire for sustainability, flexibility, and clarity. Materials are honest and minimal – timber, metal, light concrete – chosen for durability and warmth. The architectural expression is modest yet distinct, complementing the eclectic neighborhood fabric of Kriaušių Street.
Urban Living, Reimagined
This house is more than just a residence – it’s a case study in how compact architecture can still be generous. It’s a reminder that smart design can elevate small living to something not only functional but deeply joyful.
