This house stands in the protected coastal landscape of Pape on Latvia’s Baltic Sea coast. The project respects the area’s unique dunes, forests and meadows while offering a contemporary interpretation of traditional Baltic architecture.
The design takes inspiration from local building traditions. A timber structure, natural materials and a handcrafted thatched roof create a timeless architectural expression. These elements connect the house to its surroundings and strengthen its regional identity.
The compact volume follows the natural terrain and reduces the visual impact on the landscape. Large windows frame views of the coastal scenery and fill the interior with natural light. The house opens toward nature while maintaining privacy and comfort.
The layout focuses on everyday living. Open and flexible spaces encourage interaction and adapt to changing family needs. Every room creates a strong connection with the surrounding landscape.
The project places environmental responsibility at the center of the design process. The architecture preserves the site’s natural character and limits intervention wherever possible. Every material was selected for durability, sustainability and compatibility with the coastal climate.
The house blends naturally into its setting instead of dominating it. It shows how contemporary architecture can respect local heritage while creating a modern and sustainable home for future generations.
